What kind of stone should I use on this knife?

I am buying a falcon damascus stiletto, and I was wondering what kind of stone I should use to sharpen it. Would a stone of the sort you'd find at a hardware store mark the blade? I was thinking about an Arkansas stone, but I don't know if I should get soft or hard.
