My starter on my 1990 ford f150?

it makes a high pitch noise like a really loud drill and after i turn the fan belt lt makes a grinding noise like if you hold the key to long but its like this before i can get the engine running . once I got running and i the starter wouldn't disengage i have a new starter in it and it is automatic transmission
