Anyone with braces, would appreciate your help !!?

I got my fixed braces fitted 3days ago. I can't eat anything unless its made into slush [ aka. mash potato and soup ]. Im finding it really painful to brush my teeth and i cant bite anything. They said it would be uncomfortable few a couple of days but this is just really painful. Is this normal ? And how long does it take for the pain to go ?
